The Supreme Court asked WhatsApp to publicise 2021 undertaking to government

The Supreme Court has ordered Meta’s messaging platform WhatsApp to make public its undertaking to the government regarding its contentious privacy policy. According to the agreement, Indian users are not required to accept the company’s privacy policy.

According to reports, a five-judge panel led by Justice KM Joseph has ordered WhatsApp to publish the advertisement in five newspapers. Although WhatsApp and its parent company Meta agreed to run advertisements, the companies also stated that users who want to use both WhatsApp and Facebook will be unable to do so. While WhatsApp stated in a letter to the central government in May 2021 that it will not limit WhatsApp functionality for users who have yet to accept the new privacy policy, the bench ordered the company to comply with the letter’s terms until the next hearing. The next hearing is scheduled for April 11.
