Instagram DM allows users to edit sent messages within a certain time window. Messages show an ‘Edited’ tag. However, there is a workaround to prevent others from knowing if a message has been edited. Follow these steps: navigate to the chat window, long-press and copy the message, delete the message, paste it back, make the change, and send again. Instagram does not notify if a message has been deleted. Note that there is a time limit for deleting messages, and the process won’t work after that.
