Tata Sons-owned Tata Advanced Systems partners with Satellogic to develop local space technology capabilities in India

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), a key player in India’s aerospace and defence sector, has partnered with Satellogic Inc., a company in Earth Observation (EO) data collection. 

The partnership marks TASL’s entry into satellite strategy and Satellogic’s expansion into the Indian market. According to the company’s statement, The project will begin with training, knowledge transfer, and local assembly of optical sub-metre resolution EO satellites, with TSAT-1A being the first planned launch.

The focus of the project

The primary aim of this partnership is to manufacture satellites and develop imagery in India for national defence and commercial purposes. TASL is setting up a satellite Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) plant at its Vemagal facility in Karnataka. 

Enhancing India’s space capabilities

TASL and Satellogic will jointly develop a new satellite design, integrating multiple payloads to generate diverse data over India. The company said that the partnership also aims to advance commercial space capabilities and increase access to vital information for various applications, including security, sustainability, and energy.

“One of our core values at Satellogic is accessibility. This collaboration will accelerate space capacity building for one of the largest nations in the world with the goal of enabling the advancement of commercial space capabilities and greater access to critical information for a range of applications such as security, sustainability, and energy,” said Emiliano Kargieman, Chief Executive Officer and Founder at Satellogic.

Tata Advanced Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, is an Indian aerospace and defence solutions provider that spans various domains, including aerostructures, airborne platforms, defence and security, and land mobility.
