The Indian Railways has imposed restrictions on the transportation of lithium and lithium-ion batteries in leased parcel space of trains. A 48-hour prior notice is now required, and the consignment will be checked for appropriate packaging. This comes after several instances of parcels catching fire on trains. The permission to transport these batteries was only granted earlier this year. These restrictions may affect the transportation of laptops, mobile phones, and small electric vehicles using the railways’ parcel service.
