CrowdStrike, a prominent player in cloud-delivered protection, said it is acquiring Bionic, a leader in Application Security Posture Management (ASPM).
What is the aim of Bionic’s acquisition?
According to the company’s statement, The acquisition is aimed at bolstering CrowdStrike’s Cloud Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP) by integrating Bionic’s ASPM, providing enhanced risk visibility and protection across cloud estates, from infrastructure to applications.
The development comes after CrowdStrike’s Q2 FY24 financial results, showcasing a record quarter for its rapidly expanding cloud security business.
The company’s modules deployed in the public cloud reached an ending ARR of $296 million as of July 31, 2023, marking a 70% year-over-year increase.
“The cloud is cybersecurity’s new battleground, yet the industry’s answer to-date has been disjointed point security tools or ‘platforms’ with multiple consoles and agents,” said George Kurtz, co-founder and chief executive officer at CrowdStrike.

The acquisition comes in response to escalating cloud exploitations
The acquisition is a response to the escalating cloud exploitations, which have seen a 95% increase, and the tripling of cloud-conscious threat actors in the past year, as noted in the CrowdStrike 2023 Global Threat Report.
The dynamic and rapid development of applications in cloud computing environments has expanded the risk profile that adversaries aim to exploit.
How Bionic would help CrowdStrike?
Bionic’s integration will extend CrowdStrike’s Falcon platform’s protection capabilities, offering unprecedented visibility into application behaviour and vulnerability prioritization without disrupting the development process.
Bionic’s key capabilities include real-time application visibility, the ability to prioritize application-level vulnerabilities, and complete visibility for serverless infrastructure.
CrowdStrike plans to offer Bionic ASPM as an independent offering and also as an integrated capability of Falcon Cloud Security, part of the AI-powered CrowdStrike Falcon platform.
This integration will allow customers to gain comprehensive cloud security spanning various domains, including Cloud Workload Protection (CWP), Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM), and Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM).
