The Indian government is closely monitoring the impact of the Friday order by US President Donald Trump — imposing a $100,000 annual fee on companies sponsoring employees for the H-1B visa — on Indian professionals, who are the biggest beneficiaries of this work permit.
While multiple ministries are conferring with stakeholders, the ministry of external affairs is focused on ensuring Indian citizens with H-1B status do not end up stranded in transit, or face challenges while travelling to or from the US, people aware of the developments said.
