Samsung disclosed a data breach on Friday that may have exposed some customers’ personal information in the United States.
The South Korean conglomerate said it has taken steps to secure the affected systems, including hiring a leading outside cybersecurity firm and coordinating with law enforcement. According to Samsung, the data breach did not affect social security numbers, credit or debit card numbers, but “may have affected information such as name, contact and demographic information, date of birth, and product registration information” in some cases.
