Softstar Entertainment, the Taiwanese gaming giant, made an announcement on Wednesday (June 28) regarding its expansion into the Indian market with the launch of Starlight Gaming. The newly established entity will primarily focus on game development and republishing Softstar Entertainment’s popular titles in India.
The move into India is part of Softstar’s strategy to increase its global presence and specifically target Indian users. Softstar Entertainment, known for games such as Richman, Chinese Paladin, and Xuan-Yuan Sword, aims to leverage the growing Indian gaming market through this venture.
Starlight Gaming aims to provide immersive gaming experiences across various genres and set new standards in innovation, quality, and player satisfaction. The company plans to bring together a talented team, a deep understanding of gamers’ preferences, and cutting-edge technology to develop games that engage and captivate Indian players. Laveesh Pandey, the COO of Starlight Gaming, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating games that are tailored for Indian gamers.
Softstar Entertainment intends to integrate technology, gameplay mechanics, and compelling storylines to attract Indian users and establish itself as a significant player in the local gaming industry.
The entry of Softstar into the Indian market coincides with the growing interest of gaming giants worldwide in the homegrown gaming space. Recently, Chinese gaming major Tencent re-entered India with the launch of its game, Undawn. The lifting of the ban on the popular battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) by the Indian government has also spurred interest in the Indian gaming market.
While international gaming companies face challenges in entering the Indian market, such as controversy and regulatory scrutiny, the country presents a lucrative opportunity due to increasing smartphone and internet penetration. India has witnessed a surge in the number of gamers, making it an attractive market for international players seeking to expand their user base and revenues.
According to a report, India had over 507 million gamers by the end of FY22. The domestic gaming industry was valued at $2.6 billion in FY22 and is projected to grow significantly to reach $8.6 billion by FY27. With these promising figures, Softstar Entertainment’s entry into India’s gaming market holds the potential for success and growth in the coming years.
