Microsoft has reportedly cancelled development of Contraband, a co-op multiplayer game in development at Avalanche Studios, the creators of Just Cause. Announced in 2021 and set to be published by Xbox Game Studios, the game’s cancellation follows a string of other scrapped projects at Microsoft.
The move comes as a surprise, given the anticipation surrounding the title. However, despite the news, Microsoft is seemingly still committed to its partnership with Hideo Kojima. His highly anticipated horror game, OD, remains in development with Xbox, suggesting a strategic focus on specific projects within their gaming portfolio. This decision highlights the ever-evolving landscape of game development and publishing, where even promising titles can face the axe.
