Coinbase was aware of a customer data leak as early as January, stemming from a breach at an outsourcing company, Reuters reports. The larger breach is estimated to cost up to $400 million.
The incident, partially revealed in a May 14 SEC filing, involved an India-based TaskUs employee photographing her work computer with a personal phone, according to former TaskUs employees. The extent of the data compromised and the timeline of Coinbase’s full understanding of the breach remain unclear. This incident raises concerns about data security practices within outsourcing partnerships and the potential impact on Coinbase customers.
