WhatsApp to release Edit Message feature, allowing users to correct sent messages

WhatsApp is gearing up to release a new major update for its app, following the recent introduction of the ability to lock select personal chats on Android and iOS. The messaging platform has officially confirmed through its Twitter handle that the Edit Message feature will soon be available to all users. Although the exact name of the feature hasn’t been disclosed, WhatsApp shared a video demonstrating that users will soon have the ability to edit their sent messages.

While the official video doesn’t reveal the specifics of how the edit message option will function, WABetaInfo has provided details based on the feature’s availability in the app’s beta versions. Users will have a 15-minute window to edit any message they’ve sent, after which the option to make changes will no longer be available.

This feature aims to save users from the embarrassment of accidentally sending incorrect messages. Sometimes, auto-correct on mobile keyboards can change the meaning of a message. Although WhatsApp already allows message deletion, it requires retyping the entire message. The new update will allow users to quickly correct their messages, saving them time and effort. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest WhatsApp update.

According to the beta version of the app, once a message is sent, WhatsApp will provide a 15-minute window to undo or edit it. Users can long-press on a specific message to access the “Edit Message” option and tap on it to modify the text. This action opens a new window where the message can be updated.

As for the release date of the Edit Message feature on WhatsApp, the company has only teased its arrival and hasn’t disclosed a specific timeline. The teaser states that it will be available soon. Currently, the feature is accessible in the beta versions for Android and iOS. With the official tease, it is expected that the edit button will be rolled out in the coming days or weeks. Users can stay tuned to India Today Tech for the latest updates on this exciting feature.
