Cab aggregator norms: Maharashtra government seeks public feedback

The panel formed by the Maharashtra government to develop rules and regulations for cab aggregator platforms such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido in the state has reportedly solicited public input on the matter. According to a senior transport commissionerate official, citizens can offer suggestions on any rule that they believe would help promote the ride-hailing sector, as well as features for cab aggregator mobile apps and inside cabs.

The Maharashtra government is in the process of developing regulations for cab aggregators, taking into account the recommendations issued by the Centre for companies like as Ola and Uber, according to the official. Citizens can consult the instructions provided on the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways’ website.

The Maharashtra government formed a group of six people, including former IAS official Sudhir Shrivastava, to write guidelines for cab aggregators. In three months, the panel will submit its report to the state government, which may include provisions to limit surge pricing, strengthen consumer redressal systems, and improve safety measures. It will also allow the state government to take action against cab aggregators who violate the norms and regulations.

The Maharashtra government barred all non-transport vehicles from providing ride pooling and aggregation services earlier this year, which Rapido contested in the Bombay High Court. Since then, the state government’s ban has remained in place.
