Commerce minister Piyush Goyal has said that more than 7 Lakh sellers and service providers have so far been onboarded on the open network for digital commerce (ONDC).
In a post on X, Goyal said that these sellers are from more than 600 cities and towns across the length and breadth of the country. He added that the state-backed network has so far processed more than 15 Cr transactions. ONDC also boasts 200 network participants.
“ONDC was launched in 2021 by the Modi Government with a vision to democratise ecommerce in India. Over the past three years, it has not only achieved numerous milestones but also empowered businesses, especially small enterprises, by creating a level playing field for them on the network…,” Goyal said in a post on X.
The commerce minister also noted that consumers from 1,100 towns and cities have so far transacted on the network in the three years since ONDC’s operations.
Responding to Goyal’s post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded ONDC for “revolutionising” ecommerce. “ONDC has contributed to empowering small businesses and revolutionising ecommerce, thus playing a vital role in furthering growth and prosperity,” the PM said.
This comes a couple of weeks after ONDC CEO Thampy Koshy said that the number of transactions on the network have risen nearly 3X since December 2023. He projected that the number of transactions on the state-backed network would grow 7X-8X by December 2025.
Previously, it was reported that ONDC clocked 1.4 Cr transactions in October 2024, largely due to the festive season sales. Of this, 55 Lakh transactions came from the mobility segment and the remaining 84 Lakh came from non-mobility segments.

Operating under the aegis of the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), ONDC is effectively the government’s brainchild to build an alternative to ecommerce giants and offer more visibility to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and small traders.
